“It was not the beginning…but it was a beginning.”

My wife is getting her site set up today, as well. She’ll be showing off some of her amazing artwork as well as prostituting her enormous skill as a graphic designer. Check her out over the weekend at http://lorenacaffo.com! (Don’t click that link right now, or anything. The site’s not up yet. And it probably won’t be tomorrow, either. But eventually this will become a live link. I promise that much.)
Lorena and I finally got our second cat today, as well. Charlie (as the shelter volunteers named him) is a male ginger tabby, probably around 3 years old. Zoe, our other cat, is less than thrilled that she now has to share her living space with him. Of course, half the reason we got another cat is to keep her company. They’ll reach an equilibrium somehow, but there are going to be power struggles in the meantime…unfortunately for Zoe, Charlie still has his front claws, so she’ll have to make use of passive resistance techniques if she hopes to prevail. That’s ok, though. Everyone knows cats invented passive aggression.
What remains for the day? Writing, writing and more writing, that’s what. I already have my first client.
Watch out, December 31st, 2009 - I’m coming for you.

I know, I know, this has been up for almost 12 hours now, but Copyblogger’s post from today is still good advice to take to heart. Check out Sonia Simone’s words of wisdom on the subject of creating customers through delivery of quality content.
Here goes nothing

This site would not be here if it were not for the hard work and generosity of Johnny B. Truant. Check out his wisdom at The Economy Isn’t Happening or work on your own blogging skills with his webinars at Learn To Be Your Own V.A. Thanks a million, Johnny!
As for me, my name is Geoff Caffo, and I’m an aspiring writer.
But aspirations don’t pay the rent, so I’m also a wage slave. You see, I live tied to a desk in a call center for five days a week. The weekends are filled with wailing and gnashing of teeth. It’s a busy existence.
But I try to find the time to write in between bouts of anguish. Writing probably takes up about half of my free time, which itself is the half of my waking life that’s left after my job. Such a trend must be reversed, and this site is dedicated to that goal.
I want to write for a living. From my home. I will make it happen.
Today is April 30, 2009 and I am giving myself eight months from today to accomplish my goal.
By New Year’s Day, 2010, I will be free of the world of telephone customer service. I shall run with the freelancers, wild and, er, free. Web copy, PLR content, political commentary, poignant and humorous observations – you name it, I’ll write it.
But if you’re anything like me, you’ve heard all this before. You’ve been all over the web and seen a million other sites that claim they can teach you how to make money writing, or with a website, or by being a pro blogger. And you know what? Some of those sites probably can…for a sizable fee.
But there are also a lot of people out there willing to help who don’t extort exorbitant fees from their fans/readers/friends. The amount of information, encouragement and assistance that you can find on the web if you look for good people is astounding.
Johnny B. Truant is one of those. So is Naomi Dunford over at IttyBiz. I’ll be leaning on them and others like them a lot in the next eight months, so check back here for links, original content and updates on my progress.
Wish me luck!
